Special Film Screening: Blind Flight
–
18 January, 2024
The gripping story of hostages Brian Keenan and John McCarthy, both caught up in the violent political struggles taking place in Beirut in the late 1980s. Kidnapped by Hezbollah militants, their four year imprisonment brings about an unbreakable bond.
John Furse’s “Blind Flight”, an unsung masterpiece of 21st century British cinema, is an intense and deeply stirring experience: not just the outstanding acting, fine cinematography and perfectly-judged pacing, but also because it chronicles with great humanity a story of violence and love, imprisonment and friendship. This is an unforgettable journey, at times very hard to watch and yet lightened by a vein of touching humour. Seeing this film feels a little like a ritual journey, falling inexorably into the dark abyss of human experience – and then out again, towards the light.
This is also a rare opportunity to see a great 'lost' film that appears unavailable on any streaming channels. The screening will be followed by a Q & A with writer and director John Furse.
